WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A ‘HOT COALS’ LEADER?

Many years ago… more than I really care to think about, I had a manager who was what I would term a hot coals leader. The term ‘hot coals’ leader is someone that you would walk across hot coals for, even though they would never ask you to do that.

Those familiar with Tony Robbins and his Unleash the Power Within events would know that he loves the firewalking.  In fact, this is one of the most talked about, most livestreamed segments of the event.  It’s all about taking a risk, a leap of faith, believing in yourself and doing something that you didn’t think you would ever be able to do.   That’s what a ‘hot coals leader’ will do for you.

Here at The Workplace Coach we believe that everyone has the potential to become more effective, more influential in their leadership style. Step 1: Awareness: We start with this awareness piece, using a scientifically validated 360-degree measurement and feedback tool, designed to help you understand how your thinking and behaviour is either supporting your effectiveness as a leader, or holding you back. The two parts to this assessment (LSI 1 and LSI 2) allow for an insightful comparison between your self-perceptions and the perceptions of others.  You will finally understand exactly how your boss, your colleagues and your team really experience you in the workplace.

Step 2: Acceptance: You will receive a comprehensive 2 hour debrief and coaching session on your inventory results by an accredited coach.  This is a powerful session in which most clients have at least one ‘aha’ moment.  This session will help you achieve a deeper understanding and appreciation of your current personal leadership style and how effective it is in the workplace.  This can sometimes be a little confronting session for some people but understanding how your style comes across to others is absolutely critical to your growth as a leader.

Step 3: Action: Based on your results and your personal and professional goals, your Workplace Coach will help you develop a plan for the weeks and months ahead.  This is a 60-minute coaching session where we will explore opportunities for you to grow and develop and any challenges that may be standing in your way.  Together we canvas the various different actions and options that will take to your goal. You will leave this session with a clear picture of where you are going and a plan for how to get there.
